Eco-Conscious Materials

We prioritise sustainability by using eco-friendly materials such as recyclable cardboard, packing peanuts, and tape for packaging our products.

Biomass Burner

we installed a large Biomass wood burner, efficiently converting our wood waste into energy. Consequently, we've cut gas usage in two warehouses and greatly reduced landfill waste.

Sourcing Timber Sustainably

We prioritise obtaining wood from suppliers who adhere to the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) guidelines.

Continuous Progress

Our commitment to sustainability is an ongoing journey of improvement. We continuously explore new avenues to reduce our ecological footprint and contribute positively to a sustainable future.

At Porter & Woodman, we’re committed to making our business greener. Sustainability is at the core of our operations—from sourcing materials to packaging and delivery.

🔋 Energy Efficiency & Carbon Reduction
  • Biomass heating: Since 2015, two of our warehouses have been heated using a biomass wood burner that converts wood waste into energy, eliminating the need for gas.

  • Efficient upgrades: In 2016, we installed modern combi-boilers and transitioned to LED lighting across all facilities.

  • Green power: Today, 100% of our electricity comes from renewable sources.

  • UK greenhouse gas emissions fell to 479 million tonnes CO₂ equivalent in 2023—a 43% drop since 1990.
🌲 Sustainable Timber Sourcing

We only use wood from suppliers who meet FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) standards. Most of our softwood is sourced from Scandinavian mills that follow strict environmental policies and replant more trees than they harvest.

The UK’s environmental goods and services sector contributed £60.2 billion to the economy in 2022, supporting nearly 480,000 jobs.
🧺 Supporting Local & Ethical Producers

We proudly source hamper contents from local UK producers wherever possible. This supports small businesses, reduces transport emissions, and helps preserve traditional craftsmanship.

♻️ Eco-Friendly Packaging
  • Crumpled paper – 100% recycled, recyclable, and biodegradable

  • Airstrips & bubble wrap – made from recycled materials

  • Baskets – crafted from renewable materials like willow, seagrass, and bamboo

  • Outer boxes – fully recyclable cardboard

We recycle all paper, cardboard, plastic, and wood on-site. Any leftover wood is repurposed as fuel for our biomass system. We’ve also eliminated single-use plastic cups and reduced paper usage by adopting digital solutions.

In 2023, the UK recycled 44.6% of its waste, with a national target of 65% by 2035.
🚚 Smarter Transport & Delivery

We work with a network of overnight couriers to ensure efficient, low-impact deliveries. By coordinating shipments with suppliers, we reduce unnecessary travel and emissions.

💚 Every Box Makes a Difference
