At Chalkboards UK, we’ve always been committed to offering high-quality, handcrafted products at fair and competitive prices. We know that any price increase can be frustrating, so we want to be open about why this change is necessary and what’s happening behind the scenes.

Rising Material Costs

One of the biggest factors affecting our pricing is the cost of raw materials—particularly wood. Over the past year, wood prices have increased by approximately 7–10%. As a core component of many of our products, this has had a direct impact on our production costs.

We’ve worked hard to absorb these increases where possible, but unfortunately, the scale of these changes means we can no longer fully shield our customers from them.

Increased Labour Costs

Like many UK businesses, we’ve also seen a steady rise in labour costs over the past year. From skilled craftsmanship to day-to-day operations, these increases reflect broader economic changes, including wage adjustments and the cost of living.

Our team is at the heart of what we do, and maintaining fair pay and high standards is something we won’t compromise on.

Global Transport Pressures

Ongoing geopolitical issues, particularly in the Middle East, have had a significant impact on global shipping and logistics. These disruptions have contributed to an estimated 15% increase in both direct and indirect transport costs.

Even for products made here in the UK, these global pressures affect supply chains, delivery times, and the cost of getting materials to us and products to you.

Keeping Increases as Low as Possible

Despite these challenges, we’ve made every effort to keep our price adjustment to a minimum. The upcoming increase of around 5% is significantly lower than the combined rise in our underlying costs.

We’ve reviewed our processes, absorbed as much as we can internally, and delayed changes for as long as possible to minimise the impact on our customers.
